How To Choose A Pineapple

To ensure that your cucumber, apple and pineapple juice tastes great and gives you all the nutrients that you are looking for, it’s important to choose the freshest fruit.

And while it can be quick easy to tell if apples or cucumbers are fresh and ready to eat, the same cannot be said for picking the right pineapple.

Unless you have grown up eating this fruit or live somewhere that they are grown, chances are you don’t know how to spot a ripe pineapple.

So, what do you need to know?

First take a look at the outside of the pineapple and make sure there are no breaks in the skin. Then carefully feel it to see if there are any parts that are squishy, which may indicate it’s rotten.

Next, examine the color. Pineapples ripen from the base up to the crown as the sugars from the stem travel through the fruit.

In general, a pineapple will turn from a green to a yellow color from bottom to top. However, some pineapples may be ripe and green so take all of the evidence together and don’t just rely on the color of the fruit.

Picking Apples

Now you have your beautifully ripe pineapple you need equally tasty and fresh apples for your fruit juice. But how do you pick the best apples?

Some of the juiciest apples are Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Gala and Fuji. Of the four the Red Delicious is the one that is recommended for juicing as it is high in antioxidants.

But knowing which variety of apple isn’t enough, you need to be able to choose the freshest apples in the grocery store. There are a few things you need to do to make sure your apples are the best.

First, check them out visually. Make sure there are no nicks or bug holes in the apple and that the skin looks healthy with no blemishes. Then feel for firmness, there should be no squishy bits as this may indicate bruising.

Finally, smell the apple. A fresh apple should have a nice aroma. This will vary according to the different varieties, some apples like Gala have a slightly stronger fragrance than others.

Choosing A Cucumber For Juicing

Making sure your cucumber is fresh is important for the nutrition as well as the taste of this juice. So how do you know if a cucumber is fresh and good for juicing?

A good fresh cucumber should be firm with no squishy bits, and it should have a skin that is smooth and not wrinkled or puckered.

Pick a nice chunky good looking cucumber to deliver maximum hydration to your juice.
