We all know the importance of staying hydrated especially in the summer months, well if the sun makes an appearance that is! I must admit that while I am fond of water sometimes drinking two liters can seem like a chore not to mind drinking even more. Tired of water I came up with the perfect solution; cucumber juice. The wonderfully refreshing and juice taste of cucumbers is thanks to their high water content which stands at 96% thereby making it the vegetable with the highest water content. I love the combination of cooling cucumber paired with slightly tart apple juice, sweet pineapple and a touch of summery mint. This refreshing concoction will keep you not only hydrated but will also keep you as cool as a cucumber (sorry couldn’t resist!)
As mentioned above cucumbers have a water content of 96% , as the body is comprised of around 60% water is essential for many body functions. Water plays a pivotal role in ensuring the normal functioning of the body. Dehydration which results from an inadequate level of water in the body can result in a wide spectrum of health problems such as muscle cramps, fatigue and headaches. Research suggests that eating a cucumber after exercise may be twice as effective at re-hydrating your body than a glass of water. This is because in addition to water cucumbers contain a variety of amino acids, natural sugars, vitamins and mineral salts which can help replenish those lost during exercise.
